Dynamic Serero joins the Cape Citizens

One of South Africa’s nimble-footed midfielders-cum striker Thulani Serero has joined
struggling Cape Town City FC to bolster its firepower since of the departure of prolific goal
poacher Khanyisa Mayo.
Mthatha born Mayo (26) joined top Algerian side CR Belouizdad late last year and is already
making his mark, although his departure left a big void in the strike force of the Cape
Citizens who are currently struggling in the Betway Premiership, occupying 10 th position in
the 16 team league accumulating 21 points and only won six out of 19 games played so far,
losing 10 and drawing three.
The Cape Citizens believe the arrival Serero (34), a former Bafana Bafana international and
product of the now defunct Ajax Cape Town FC, will boost their fire power upfront and
elevate their position in the league with the remaining few games to the end of the current
season.
Cape Citizens media officer Julian Bailey was optimistic about their chances in the remaining
games with the arrival of Serero in the team’s fold. “We’re confident his arrival will play a
big role in the positive outcomes of our last few games of the current season,” he told the
Johannesburg-based Sipho Siso News.
“We know what he is capable of and his contribution to the premiership before his departure
for international football and we believe there is a lot of football still left in him to make a
huge difference to our side,” he added.
Cape Town City parted ways with long-time coach Eric Tinkler after a string of poor results
and the arrival of seasoned coach Muhsin Ertugral has not so far started to bear the expected
fruits, but a mountain of work remains to be done to get the outfit back to its winning ways
again.
Ertugral is no stranger to South African football having coached several clubs in the country,
one of them being the Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs but was unlucky to be beaten 2-1 by an

inform Orlando Pirates last week, which is one of the many teams he coached before,
including Ajax Cape Town, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Lamontville Golden Arrows.
