Recently fired Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has landed himself a Sekhukhune United
post following the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema on March 5. A club statement said they expect Tinkler, who they described as an accomplished football coach with well over 30 years of experience in the game, to hit the ground running as his appointment is with immediate effect. Tinkler, a former Bafana Bafana international during playing heydays, holds a UEFA and Caf A licenses with numerous other prestigious coaching badges and is no stranger to success as he has previously won the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout tournaments and reaching numerous finals in the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederations Cup, during his days as coach of the Mighty Buccaneers Orlando Pirates. He has also been involved in various domestic competitions with both the Buccaneers and the Cape Citizens, as Cape Town City are fondly known to its avid followers. The Sekhukhune statement described Tinkler as a forward-thinking leader, who is ready to
take on an ambitious team like Babina Noko [the nickname of Sekhukhune United] to new
heights. Speaking on Tinkler’s new appointment, club chairperson Simon Malatji said the club was honoured to have a coach of Tinkler’s calibre and experience. “I must truly say we honoured to have him as mentor to our players and at the same time in charge of our project and wish him all the best,” Malatji added. Tinkler, as head coach, will be assisted in the new-look technical team by former Free State Stars goal poacher Paulus Masehe, Marc Van Heerden, and Nascent Mkhwashu, the latter who is the goalkeeper coach.
