The Tshwane outfit Mamelodi Sundowns is done and dusted with Kaizer Chiefs after
achieving a pass rate of distinctions in both Betway Premiership games. After this remarkable achievement over the Phefeni Boys, the free scoring Yellow Machine, which came out the first-round match with Orlando Pirates with yet another remarkable distinction of a 4-1 victory, will now turn its attention to the second round away game to the Mighty Buccaneers on March 16 at the FNB Stadium. Now, the big question is whether the Brazilians will manage to achieve the milestone of a clean slate of distinctions over its two Soweto rivals, by beating them both twice in the league to cement an all-time great record or will Masandawana be spooked by The Ghosts of Orlando to become the fall guy.
Although the entire team and technical staff take credit for orchestrating the fall of the
Mighty Bucs, one player standouts for the demolition act, and that is none other than the
Brazilian international midfield maestro, Lucas Ribeiro, who dons the famous number 10
jersey for Masandawana and is the engine of the Tshwane outfit. He led a solo effort right from a little beyond the centre line after receiving the ball and worked his way through a maze of Bucs midfielders and defenders to unleash a powerful grass-cutter shot that never gave Sipho Chaine on goals any chance. That solo effort and many other incredible feats of football mastery earned Masandawana midfield kingpin was crowned the Best Player of the Month of February for the second time this season. In that month in question, Ribeiro was involved in eight goals for his side through finding the back of the net five times and orchestrating three assists. In addition to being voted the Best Player of the Month, Ribeiro’s solo run in Sundowns’ 4-1 over the Buccaneers was voted the Best Goal of the Month, making Ribeiro’s second successive award in the category after winning it in January. As the two giants meet again in the top of the table clash, its still anyone’s game but the words on many football lovers’ lips is whether Downs coach Miguel Cardoso, Ribeiro and the entire team will make it two-out-two over Pirates and that can Ribeiro repeat his solo run and demolish the Buccaneers again? Only the final whistle will tell at the end of the ninety minutes of play on March 16.
