Former Orlando Pirates Football Club chairperson and businessman Bobby Khomotso Jacob Makwetla died last Monday (March 10) aged 83. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) said in a statement that the organisation was deeply saddened by the passing of Makwetla and extended heartfelt condolences to the Makwetla family and ordered a moment’s silence at all Betway Premiership, Motsepe Foundation Championship, and DStv Diski Challenge fixtures this coming weekend. Makwetla, who was an avid football and boxing lover, was also described by family as a community builder who poured his heart out for the less fortunate. Makwetla would also be remembered as an advocate of Black Economic Empowerment and worked closely with government in this regard besides being the non-executive director of Reunert. He also served as executive director for King Food Corporation, which is a subsidiary of Tiger Brands’ Tiger Oats and Tiger Foods and served on the boards of Lebowa Platinum and was also chairman of Merafe Holdings (Pty) Ltd.
