It’s going to be battle royal when Kaizer Chiefs meets its football arch enemy Orlando Pirates in the second round of the Betway Premiership’s Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium on May 3.

At stake will not just be the three lurking for the grab by the best team on the day, but most importantly for the fans of both clubs, there will also be bragging rights that normally last an entire week or so where provocative teasing of the losers becomes the order of the day.

But SuperSportBet, who are partners with both AmaKhosi and AmaBhkaniya, have throne a pigeon into the mix to make the bragging rights even more lucrative the fans. A fully-furnished house awaits a fan of the winning side which will be built in the world-famous township of Soweto.

The first round of this hotly-contested football derby which ranks among the top in the world, belonged to the Mighty Buccaneers which came via the boot of the young and marvellous goal poacher Relebohile Mofokeng with his last-minute ditch-goal that sent shockwaves to the multitudes of AmaKhosi fans.

Soccer scribes in the stadium’s media perch had already settled for a nil-nil draw of the game, only for Mofokeng to spoil the party for AmaKhosi. A draw is as good as a win for both sides as there would have been no outright victor, meaning the bragging rights are equally shared with no loser.

Pirates’ media officer Thandi Merafe, speaking at the SuperSportBet press conference, expressed her confidence that her Mighty Buccaneers will triumph once again against a side she described as ‘ailing’.

“The Buccaneers will come out on top once again as they did in the first round of the league’s Soweto Derby. I don’t see an ailing Chiefs beating its parent club,” she said, indicating the fact that Chiefs were an offspring of Orlando Pirates during the 1970 split of Kaizer Motaung from the club to form Kaizer Chiefs.

“After the ninety minutes of the game, as a caring parent, we [Orlando Pirates] will hold your hand and console you for the loss like we have always done in all the derbies we triumphed in. May 3 will be do different,” she added.

But her Chiefs counterpart Vina Maphosa was not fazed by her utterances. “This time, the tables will turn and AmaKhosi will play the role of parent to our frail parents [Pirates]. I can assure you that Abafana basePhefeni will do the job on May 3 and you guys will come out empty handed with your tails between your hind legs,” Maphosa said.

With such fiery comments from South Africa’s best loved bitter rivals, the stage is set for yet another thrilling and nail-biting Soweto Derby, come May 3.
