Protea Hotels by Marriott and Marriott Bonvoy has unveiled the first-ever Orlando Pirates themed hotel rooms in Cape Town.
This latest move gives football fans in the Mother City a new way to connect with their passion for the game and the new Buccaneers themed hotel rooms can be found at Protea Hotels by Marriott at Cape Town’s Waterfront Breakwater Lodge and offer an immersive stay celebrating one of the South Africa’s most iconic football clubs.
The launch follows the success of similar rooms at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! By Marriott in Johannesburg’s Melrose Arch, a move that expands the partnership between Marriott Bonvoy and the Buccaneers to the Mother City.
“With this launch, we’re extending the Orlando Pirates partnership beyond Johannesburg, giving football fans in Cape Town – and those traveling with the team a new way to immense themselves in the spirit of the club and their love for the beautiful game while enjoying the Mother City’s vibrant atmosphere,” said Senior commercial director for Sub-Saharan Africa’s Marriott International Dorcas Dlamini Mbele.
The new themed rooms feature a striking design that blends the Orlando Pirates’ signature of black-and-white colours with a coastal aesthetic. Highlights include signed memorabilia, a custom-designed bathroom adorned with a generic pattern reminiscent of a soccer ball, and a frameless acrylic panel featuring Orlando Pirates players.
The room’s standout feature is a striking graffiti-inspired mural by Cape Town artist Muray Cowan, otherwise known as Strange Harvest. The artwork captures the energy and spirit of Orlando Pirates, depicting a man mid-shout – symbolising the passion of the club’s supporters. Table Mountain rises in the background, anchoring the piece in Cape Town’s identity, while a dynamic soccer player in motion represents the game’s athleticism and ambition. The Buccaneers signature black-and-white colour scheme unifies the composition, evoking a sense of pride and belonging.
“Orlando Pirates has always been more than just a football club – it’s a legacy, a culture, and a passion that unites our supporters across South Africa. This themed room in Cape Town is a tribute to our fans, offering them a unique way to celebrate their love for the Buccaneers while experiencing world-class hospitality,” said brand communication and partnership manager at Orlando Pirates Thandi Merafe.
