The champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship will not be crowned as per usual this season due to shenanigans that still need to be sorted out either by the league prosecutor or the disciplinary body are still yet to be finalised.
A statement from the National Soccer League pointed out that the practice of crowning the champions on the last match of the season will not happen this year due to outstanding matters with the league prosecutor and or disciplinary issues referred to the relevant bodies are yet to be resolved.
“Unfortunately, certain matters referred by member clubs in the division to the league prosecutor and or disciplinary bodies are still yet to be finalised.
“It is not clear to NSL [National Soccer League] how, and to what extent, these matters may impact the final log standings in the division,” the statement said. It added that the league has decided to delay the trophy handover while these matters are being addressed by the appropriate decision makers.
The NSL, the statement said, will use its endeavours to the extent permissible under the NSL Handbook, to ensure these matters are finalised as expeditiously as possible and will keep member clubs informed.
