Rand Water are a happy and relieved lot following the completion of the planned maintenance work on the B16 pipeline in Mayerton well ahead of the schedule and minimal water disruptions for some residents. “We are pleased to report that all work on the B16 project has been completed and that pumping at Mapleton has commenced. Water is not restored immediately following the completion of maintenance work as the system still needs to build capacity,” spokesperson Lydia Radebe said.

Cautioning residents to use the available water sparingly to allow the building of capacity, Radebe said low-lying areas will be the first to get water first, while high-lying areas will take some time to recover. She said the recovery was influenced by demand, so Radebe urged residents whose water supply has been restored, to use water sparingly as the supply resumes to improve.

Radebe appealed to the residents for patience and cooperation from residents as the system recovers from the massive maintenance programme that sought to link the B16 pipeline to the B8 across the two sites which are roughly 10km apart. The completion of this project will boost water supply in Gauteng and beyond and lead to the stabilisation of the water supply system too, Radebe added.
