Sekhukhune United has sounded warning bells that it means business in the upcoming Betway Premiership 2025/26 season by bolstering its squad with new signings that are set to solidify every department of the team.

The club has signed every player worth his salt that it could come across, including the likes of top striker of now defunct SuperSport United’s Bradley Grobler. The goal poaching marksman signed for Babina Noko long before the decision by the club to sell its status to new boys on the block, Siwelele FC, which is owned by a son of Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie.

That transaction is awaiting approval by the Premier Soccer League’s Executive Committee. Adibahlabe, as Sekhukhune United is also fondly known, didn’t stop with the signing of Grobler but has gone on to add new names such as Manuel Sapunga (33), an experienced Equatorial Guinea’s top goalminder who played for Polokwane City.

Other signings were Ronaldo Maarman from Chippa United, Miguel Timm from Orlando Pirates, Sphiwe Mahlangu from TS Galaxy, Wonderboy Makhubu, who was on a season’s loan to Magesi FC, and goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata from Zambia’s Zesco United.

Contract extension of contracts for five of its key players, midfield maestro Linda Mntambo, striker Chibuike Ohizu, skipper Daniel Cardoso, Vusimuzi ‘Skheshe’ Mncube and Democratic Republic of Congo defender Tresor Tshibwabwa.

Speaking at the renewal ceremony of the multimillion rand playing kit sponsor by Sekhukhune United and Chinese sports apparel company, Kelme, club chairperson Simon Malatjie warned the club means business in the premiership stakes this time around.

“For the past four seasons, the club has been consistently in the Top 8 bracket, hoovering around third and 4th positions, and in the coming season, I want to promise you fireworks from the Sekhukhune United team.

“We have been in the peripheries of this league for far too long and this time it will not be business as usual. We’re determined to make our presence felt and hence the strengthening of all the departments of the team with solid players that can deliver the goods for us.

“I cannot promise you now that we will win the league but what I can tell you is that we means business, not just in the league but also in the Caf continental competitions that we will be involved in. We’re tired of sitting in the peripheries and this time we want to show the kind of stuff we’re made of,” Malatjie said.

Malatjie also disclosed that the club had acquired a 35-hectare piece of land in Midrand where it intends to build a top-class club village, with state-of-the-art sports facilities such as training grounds and fitness facilities capable of taking the club’s games to a whole new level.
