City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport Kenny Kunene has been caught flirting with a suspected criminal when police officers pounced at the home of man to arrest him in connection with allegations of murder.

DA Johannesburg Caucus Leader Cllr Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, called on the City’s Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero to immediately fire Kunene from his executive committee in the light of him being found at the home of a murder suspect when police officers arrived to arrest the man.

A Patriotic Alliance leader in Johannesburg, Kunene was found in the suspect on July 22 and Kayser-Echeozonjoku said ‘it seems that criminality and underworld links seem to be entrenched in the Patriotic Alliance as their Johannesburg leader was found at the home of a suspected murderer when police arrived to effect an arrest’.

“Kunene’s role as MMC for Transport is untenable after he was found by police at the home of a murder suspect, as police arrived to arrest the suspect. The DA calls for Kunene’s immediate resignation, and if he will not resign, Mayor Dada Morero must
fire him,” Kayser-Echeozonjoku.

A teacher by profession, Kunene spent six years at a maximum prison in Bloemfontein and upon his release in 2003, he campaigned for the youth, urging them to stay on the straight and narrow to avoid crossing swords with the law and end up incarcerated and with a criminal record.

He later went into business together with his partner and leader of Patriotic Alliance, another former jailed bird of the drug underworld Gayton McKenzie, who is currently Minister of Sport in the government of National Unity (GNU) between the ANC and DA and other smaller parties.

The pair opened a restaurant in Johannesburg’s posh suburb of Sandton, which is considered as the richest square mile in Africa, that served sushi to clients from the top of naked bodies of young women. This attracted a lot of criticism, and the pair was accused of trampling on the right of vulnerable young women.

They then branched into the political space and formed the Patriotic Alliance after enticing vulnerable communities, military Veterans Association and children from vulnerable household and offered them bursaries, food parcels, clothing etc. This attracted crowds that later went on to vote for their party which gained a fair share of seats in the National Assembly and later joined the GNU.

The pair freely share their criminal past with anyone that cares to listen in the hope of exposing their remorse to attract more followers under the guise of the good men pair that truly regrets its criminal past.
