Kaizer Chiefs are still yet to beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the premiership as both sides huffed and puffed to a goalless share of the spoils in a game played at a frenetic pace between two committed sides at the FNB Stadium on August 27.

AmaKhosi Amahle has not beaten the Masandawana in a couple of seasons since the days of coach Pitso Mosimane, who once remarked that doesn’t have to always collect points from Chiefs and Pirates matches, but that he can collect them elsewhere and still win the league and that was achieved.

This time around, the business minded Naturena outfit has started this season like a house on fire, winning all three of its opening matches without conceding, and going on to secure a goalless stalemate despite home advantage against the Yellow Machine.

There wasn’t a fiery celebration as orchestrated by the Buccaneer fans when they drew level with Masandawana in the first leg of the MTN8 competition at fortress Orlando Stadium, but the Soweto Glamour Boys can take solace on their amazing display on the day, reminiscent of the good old glory days of ‘vat alles’, where they collected all the cups and sometimes the league as well.

Chiefs put up a scintillating performance against the Brazilians, especially the game of ‘Khathazile’, better known as Wandile Duba, Democratic Republic of Congo
international goal poacher Glody Lilepo, Mduduzi Shabalala and Pule Mmodi upfront.

The AmaKhosi foursome caused all sorts of problems for Masandawana backline, composed of Malibongwe Khoza, Keanu Cupido, Fawaaz Basadien and Ronwen ‘Ronza’ Williams as they stood steadfast in their game to thwart AmaKhosi strikers.

AmaKhosi’s Brandon Petersen in between the sticks, assisted by backline of Paseka Mako, Skipper Zitha Kwinika, Inacio Miguel and Thabiso Monyane stood firm to deny
the Yellow Machine any scoring opportunities. Even substitutes introduced later such as Gaston Sirino, a former Masandawana midfield kingpin, were equally excellent in standing their ground.

This was a humdinger of a match that could have been played all night and still not produce any goals, but a share of the goalless spoils was a fair result for both sides, and the reverse fixture with Masandawana at home, will be equally highly anticipated.
