Football fans pick up tickets for the highly anticipated MTN8 final in Mbombela in a similar fashion to the way workers pick up fat cakes, better known as magwinya, on their daily morning trip to work.
In just a day of release on September 1, the tickets were all snapped up like hot cakes in a space of hours soon after the opening for sales, an indication that football is surely coming back to the fore as the number one sport following its collapse during the outbreak of Covid 19 as it was played in empty stadia.
The final takes place at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga province on September 13 which is a replica of last season’s final between Orlando Pirates and Mzansi’s rising football giant, Stellenbosch FC.
A delighted Premier Soccer League, which went laughing all the way to the bank, said spectators can look forward to an exciting line up of pre-match entertainment activities that will blow them away, with details yet to be revealed soon.
A statement from the league urged supporters who couldn’t lay their hands on the ‘hot cakes’ to find solace in watching the game live on the SuperSport PSL Channel 202 and SABC 2.
Fireworks can be expected from the humdinger of a game as the Buccaneers will be looking to defend the trophy for a third time in a row while the Stellies will be hoping to post one over their arch enemies to bag the trophy this time around.
