AmaZulu FC has strengthened its attacking arsenal with the signing of experienced forward Thabiso Kutumela.

The 32-year-old, fresh from representing Bafana Bafana at the Total Energies African Nations Championship in Kenya, has joined Usuthu with his proven pedigree as a goal poacher of note. He will don the iconic jersey number 10 for Usuthu and is expected to play a huge role in reviving the club’s scoring prowess.

Usuthu president Sandile Zungu personally welcomed the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates striker and expressed his excitement about the acquisition of the services of Kutumela.

“We’re so excited to welcome Thabiso Kutumela into the fold of the club,” said Zungu, describing Kutumela as an ‘accomplished striker during his tenure at the then Maritzburg United now Durban City. He competed alongside the likes of Bradley Grobbelaar and Peter Shalulile for the league’s Top Goal Scorer Award and both Grabbelaar and Shalulile are still doing just that for their respective teams, and we trust Kutumela will hit the ground running at Usuthu. We will welcome him with warm hands’, Zungu said in a club statement.

Zungu said Kutumela has long been on AmaZulu’s radar and will be a key figure in coach Arthur Zwane’s plans for the club, particularly as the team works through the Fifa international break to sharpen its finishing upfront.

The Limpopo-born striker could not hide his joy at officially becoming part of the Usuthu family. “I am so happy that this move has finally materialised. This was not the first time that AmaZulu showed interest in me – as I remember back when I was at Maritzburg United before joining Sundowns. They enquired about my services but it never happened then, but here I am now and glad it has materialised now.

“My aim is to help the team to win trophies and finish higher in the league than last season. In football, anything is possible and every team has its objectives. Mine is to play my part in achieving them,” Kutumela said.

Kutumela’s arrival is expected to add firepower upfront in Usuthu’s frontline as the team looks to convert promising performances into goals with its hard-running and attacking style of football reminiscent of the former Bloemfontein Celtic during its heydays, as it hope to continue to climb the Betway Premiership standings as the season grows older.
