Football lovers can look forward to more than just fireworks on the pitch during the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch on Saturday [August 13] as the country’s music big guns Sjava and Morda Bongz will add spectacle to the titanic clash.

This follows an announcement by the Premier Soccer League and tournament sponsor MTN that award-winning music artists Sjava and Morda Bongz will headline the pre-match entertainment as a starter before the main course.

A statement from the league encouraged fans to arrive early at the stadium to immerse themselves to the musical spectacle in the build up to one of the most anticipated fixtures on the football calendar.

With the stadium gates opening at 14H00 – well ahead of kick off that is scheduled for 18H00, early arrivals will be treated to a world-class pre-match entertainment show that seamlessly blends music, culture, and football excitement.

Adding to the thrill, the statement said, one lucky fan will be crowned MTN8 Last Fan Standing during the halftime, walking away with R1 million – a moment not to be missed as that millionaire could easily be you on the day.

“The MTN8 is more than just football – it’s a celebration of South African spirit, culture, and unity,” said general manager for brand and sponsorships at MTN South Africa Robyn Lewis ahead of the showdown.

“It’s a tournament that brings people together from all walks of life to share in the passion, pride, and energy that only local football can inspire. We’re proud to bring fans an experience that not only showcases thrilling football action but also blends it with the vibrancy of iconic South African music acts and cultural expression,” Lewis said.

“As we continue to grow the MTN8, we remain committed to making a meaningful impact beyond the stadiums – supporting local communities through our various charitable initiatives and development programmes. It’s our way of ensuring that the legacy of the tournament lives on long after the final whistle,” Lewis added.

Lewis said they would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the fans, partners, clubs, and supporters who continue to show unwavering support year after year. “Your passion and loyalty are the driving force behind the success of the MTN8. Because of you, the MTN8 is not just a tournament – it’s a proudly South African tradition that unites us all,” Lewis said.

Lewis said through the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative, the tournament has already raised R460 000 for good causes, while legacy programmes such as the Last Legend Standing continue to uplift youth and communities across South Africa.
