The South African Premier Soccer League and MultiChoice have confirmed that the 2024/25 season DStv Diski Challenge champions, Kaizer Chiefs, will jet off to face English giants Manchester United this coming November.
This is part of the prize for winning the Diski Challenge, which is the reserve league of the Betway Premiership, which stipulates that winners of the challenge will be afforded an opportunity to go on an overseas trip as part of the players’ development and preparation for intergration to the main team.
This exciting fixture follows Amakhosi’s historic achievement earlier this year, when they were crowned champions of the challenge for the first time in the tournament’s history, amassing a record 70 points. As part of their reward, the champions will now test themselves against international opposition — Manchester United, Leeds United, and Queens Park Rangers U21 sides — during an 11-day UK tour scheduled for November 25 to December 7 this year.
The Chiefs’ reserves will depart for the United Kingdom on November 25, arriving in Manchester the following day, where they’ll be based for most of the tour. Their first fixture will be against United on November 28, followed by a clash with Leeds United on December 2.
The tour will conclude in London with a final match against Queens Park Rangers, better known as QPR U21s on December 6. In addition to the matches, the tour will include academy exchange visits with Manchester United and Liverpool, offering invaluable knowledge-sharing opportunities.
The team will also attend a Premier League fixture between Leeds United and Chelsea, and enjoy a day in London, including a visit to the Premier League offices. Throughout the 2024/25 season, AmaKhosi demonstrated grit and determination, collecting vital points even while several key players were away on national duty — truly embodying the spirit of the challenge.
In a statement, the league said its partnership with MultiChoice remains steadfast in its commitment to community development and sporting excellence. Looking ahead, the statement said MultiChoice will continue to invest in nurturing grassroots talent and empowering communities across South Africa. “As the DStv Diski Challenge continues to grow, it stands as a beacon of hope for aspiring footballers by providing them with the opportunity to showcase their talent both nationally and on the global stage,” the statement said.
