Mamelodi Sundowns goal minder and team skipper Ronwen Williams has downplayed the pressure being applied on his side ahead the big clash today [February 18] against an inform and all conquering Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.
The clash, which was moved from the smaller Orlando Amstel Arena to the FNB Stadium, will be played at 19H30 and has been taunted as a league decider as The Sea Robbers comfortably seat at the summit of the log with a six-point lead ahead of the Yellow Machine, which has a game in hand.
“This is no league decider for whoever wins it as there are a lot of games still to be played before the league winds up to a close. All that is at stake here are the three points and this how, as Sundowns players, we approach this encounter,” Williams said in a recorded message for sports scribes.
“Our focus is on the game in the hope of collecting all the three points at stake and not to be bothered by claims of this game being a league. By the look of things, the current league may go down to the wire and the best side will take it,” Williams said.
The Sea Robbers’ Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was equally cautious when it came to portraying this clash as a league decider. “The league is far from over and all that is needed is sober minds that can take each game as it comes. I consider the taunting of the game as a league decider as one of those attempts to divert the attention of players into thinking the league has been won and hence lower their guard. We are taking one game at a time,” Ouaddou added.
The Buccaneers have a tough two-week session with big name teams such as Masandawana and then the Soweto Derby with arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in 10 days’ time, also at the FNB Stadium.
